Legacy

what is my legacy?

my art, my life, a farce and a fantasy,

reflections in life’s funhouse mirror,

everything real, everything truthful,

what is my legacy?

artifice, facts distorted,

perceived as real,

lies misinterpreted,

nothing fact, much fantasy.

mostly speculation about what might have been,

often simply subjective interpretation,

puzzling pieces, perhaps from different puzzles,

what is my legacy?

tomes forgotten in dusty archives,

rediscovered by distant offspring

interpreting crumbling pages crusted in mold,

creating a world molded by their imaginings.

gaps filled by imagination,

fabricated expressions of fear and anger,

imagined outcomes wrought too soon,

what is my legacy?

less about what was or is,

partial truths gathered,

time transforms the narrative.

decaying incomprehension.
